Luffa Soaps
Luffa Soaps
We grow the luffa gourd in our garden each summer. It produces a long vine with a zucchini like fruit. After allowing the luffa to dry, the skin flakes off, the seeds are removed & the resulting product is a luffa sponge just like you see in the store! We cut these into pieces and cover them in soap. They are great as a hand-washing option and can also be a full body soap, but the abrasiveness may be a bit much for some with delicate skin.
Luffa Porter Soap - Great luffa bar with the nourishing and lathering abilities provided by beer. Of course, this one is local, the Milkhouse Brewery Red Eye Porter - a nice dark beer made with grains from Maryland. They are sold in a 32 oz can, so some is saved for soap and the rest is tested for “Quality Assurance” purposes…in my belly.
The luffa is a gentle scrubber and the shea formula is a silky smooth lather to get you clean with a great aroma of herbal essential oils - Spearmint, Rosemary, Basil, Eucalyptus, & Lemongrass.
These are also great to add a Soapsaver Bag when you want to get suds without using the luffa sponge.

Luffa Charcoal Soap - This bar is part of our farm friends series, where we introduce some other local products in order to have more sustainable options in our soapmaking. Part of the ingredients coming from down the road rather than across the world, means a smaller footprint, which is always a great thing. This bar has a refreshing essential oil blend with a mild hint of lemon paired with rosemary and eucalyptus oils.
